Did you know??? That the men who cut timber in the 1800s and early 1900s were called “Wood Hicks”? So, The word “hick” began in Britain in the 17th century and just meant a simple countryman. We see it in American English in the 1840s and referred to men who cut timber in the backwoods of north-central and Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and neighboring areas.
